Pocket Wikipedia 1.0

Synopsis :
Pocket Wikipedia is a carefully compiled handpicked selection of Wikipedia information and comprises of nearly 24,000 images and 14 million words. That’s a stack of fifteen volume encyclopedias (Encyclopedia Britannica has 40 million words and 24,000 images!). All within a 180MB free download in three zip archive. 7 Step to make Prims Portable

What I’ve done to use the above webapp portably is as follows (assume that the USB drive/portable device is drive letter “X”):

1. Make sure you have Prism and the Wikipedia.webapp installed.
2. Create a folder under “X:\PortableApps\” (or where ever you store your portable applicaitons) called “X-Prism” (”X:\PortableApps\X-Prism”)
3. Copy the “C:\Program Files\Prism” folder to “X:\PortableApps\X-Prism” (”X:\PortableApps\X-Prism\Prism”)
4. Copy the wikipedia.exe and the wikipedia.ini files into “X:\PortableApps\X-Prim”
5. Run the Prism.exe, this will create the user profile you’ll need to copy your webapp into
6. Now copy your webapp folder from your profile folder on your hard drive usually located about here:
   “C:\Documents and Settings\YOURUSERNAME\Application Data\WebRunner\Profiles\RANDOMSTRING.default\webapps\WEBAPPNAME”
   to your new profile folder on your portable device:
   “X:\PortableApps\Application Data\WebRunner\Profiles\NEWRANDOMSTRING.default\webapps\WEBAPPNAME“
7. Last step, start the wikipedia.exe file again, this will start the webapp that you’ve copied.

TiddlyDu2

ZuluPad description

A notepad on crack that allows you to organize your notes, appointments, favorite websites, etc.

ZuluPad is a notepad on crack. It's a place to jot down class notes, appointments, to-do lists, favorite websites, pretty much anything you can think of. The great thing about ZuluPad application is that it combines the best parts of a notepad with the best parts of a wiki, a concept made popular by Wikipedia. Say for instance, you're a music major, and you're studying Bach.

You've taken notes on Bach in ZuluPad, and after a long 16 weeks have finally completed the semester. Sometime after the summer break, you're taking notes on Beethoven, and your teacher mentions a way in which Beethoven was influenced by Bach.

As soon as you type "Bach" into your notes, it's underlined as a hyperlink. You think to yourself, "oh yeah, I know a few things about Bach". So you click the link, and you can read all of your Bach notes. While you're reading your Bach notes, you happen to notice a link to a page about Henry Purcell, and you can refresh your memory about him, too.

Or, for instance, imagine that you're a salesman with 100+ clients. You recognize them all when you see them, but it's hard to keep their names straight. You've jotted down an appointment to meet with John Smith in ZuluPad, and "John Smith" is immediately highlighted. You click the link, and you're reminded that John hates fish, loves golf, tends to annoy you, but always orders a lot.

WikiPad V1.7

Synopsis :
WikidPad is a Wiki-like notebook for storing your thoughts, ideas, todo lists, contacts etc. It allows you to easily cross-link the information entered by using "WikiWords".

How to Install in Stick :
Download the installer and extract using Universal Extractor to a folder of your choice. The application files are located in the {app} folder. Launch the program by double-clicking on WikidPad.exe. Under Help | About, scroll the shown text to the end to locate the configuration folder (typically the user profile folder C:\Documents and Settings\[Username]). Now close the program. From the configuration folder, move a file called WikidPad.config and a folder called .WikidPadGlobals to the application folder where WikidPad.exe resides. Launch WikidPad.exe again and it should write settings to the application folder instead of the user profile folder.

TiddlyWiki

TiddlyWiki is a single html file that works as a wiki, you can use a real wiki like mediawiki. you can find some good stuff with the search function. You have also used to create the help file. I use with auto hotkey software, I've written and distribute at work.

Only one other person has contributed so far, but the wiki is useful for me as I use it as a notebook to keep important information. I try to update it about once a day as new things pop up at work. Someday, it will probably catch on and become a valuable resource for more than just me, but for now, I’m still happy with it. The hyperlinking, and built in search capability could be duplicated by making a Word or Open Office document, but the way tiddly wiki presents articles without showing everything else in the document as well, really cuts down on the clutter. TiddlyWiki also allows you to tag articles, so that you can group them logically.

TiddlyWiki is a small file. It works really well for organizing lots of small articles or chunks of data like how-to instructions, recipes, and the like. TiddlyWiki is popular with students for note-taking purposes. When I was in school, laptops were too expensive for students to tote them around to class, but that seems to be more common now.

TiddlyWiki works bestwith Mozilla Firefox and you can instal add-on POW (webserver), You can put TiddlyWiki in Htdocs. Now you can write your own Wiki. You can download TiddlyWiki

MediaWiki is a free software wiki package originally written for Wikipedia. It is now used by several other projects of the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation and by many other wikis, including this very website, the home of MediaWiki.

Wikis are structured from the start for participation. Editing a wiki is far simpler than modifying a typical website because doing so does not require HTML skills.
